The moose is loose! |
Picked this campsite as a carryover going to Denver. Not much in Wyoming to see on our way to spot. Most of our drive was miles and miles of brush and land with nothing in site. This is a National Forest campsite that is first come first serve, no reservations allowed. Got lucky when we rolled in and found one available spot. At first, I didn't think there was much to do at this campsite but I was wrong. It has multiple hiking trails around the protruding rock formations. On one of our hikes we ran into a moose. We were a little surprised to see the moose and glad it was on the other side of the water. Most of the campers were there to rock climb. Got few pictures, they look like ants.
Laramie is just 17 miles away and we rolled into the town (home of the University of Wyoming Cowboys) to have sushi for father's day. Per Kami, it's a cute town with shabby chic antique shops and bars (it is a college town).
The elevation at Vedauwoo is 7900 ft. The nights were chilly and the days were in the low 70's. It was a nice two day stop over and glad we picked it.
The trails were different depending on what side of the rock formation you were on. This side was more rocky and had plant life conducive to high altitude. Nice waterfall along the way.
